RAKBANK Statement Converter: PDF to Excel, Step by Step
RAKBANK statements land in accounting inboxes across the Emirates every month, and every one of them has the same problem: the data you need is real, complete and completely stuck. You cannot sum a PDF. You cannot filter it, categorise it, or hand it to Zoho Books.
This guide covers the full route from bank to bookkeeping: pulling the statement, dealing with the password, converting to Excel or CSV, checking the output is actually correct, and importing it into your accounting software — plus why it matters that your client's file never leaves your laptop.
⚠️ Being precise about what we support. BayanSheet ships hand-tuned templates for Emirates NBD, FAB, ADCB and Dubai Islamic Bank. RAKBANK is not among them. RAKBANK statements are handled by automatic layout detection — the engine reads the table structure in your PDF, maps the columns, and applies the same full reconciliation check. It works, and we would rather say exactly what it is than imply a template that does not exist.
Step 1 — Get the statement out of RAKBANK
Always start from the bank's own PDF. A native PDF has a real text layer underneath it, which is what allows a converter to read exact figures instead of guessing at pixels. A photo of a screen or a scanned printout forces OCR and costs you accuracy.
From RAKBANK Digital Banking (desktop)
- Sign in to RAKBANK Digital Banking.
- Select the account from your accounts list.
- Open Statements / e-Statement / Account Statement, depending on how your view is labelled.
- Pick the period. Full statement cycles are better than arbitrary date ranges, because the document then carries printed opening and closing balances — which is what makes reconciliation possible.
- Download as PDF.
From the RAKBANK Mobile app
- Open the app and authenticate.
- Tap the account, then the statement or transaction-history option.
- Choose the month or range.
- Download the PDF, or share it to yourself and save it.
💡 Statements pulled from inside digital banking are frequently unencrypted, while emailed statements almost always carry a password. If you have the choice, download rather than dig through your inbox — it removes an entire step.
A note on CSV exports
If RAKBANK offers you a direct CSV or Excel download of transactions, it can be convenient, but check what is missing. Bank-generated spreadsheets often exclude the opening and closing balance lines, and without those you cannot prove the export is complete. A PDF converted by a tool that reconciles the totals gives you a stronger audit position than a raw export you have to trust.
Step 2 — The password-protected PDF
An encrypted statement is normal, not broken. UAE banks lock emailed statements so a compromised inbox does not hand over someone's entire financial history.
The password formula is always stated in the covering email. Across Gulf banks it is typically assembled from details the customer already holds:
| Ingredient | Typical form |
|---|---|
| Date of birth | DDMMYYYY or DDMM |
| Customer / CIF number | Full or last digits |
| Card or account number | Last 4–6 digits |
| Name | First letters, often uppercase |
| Mobile number | Last digits |
Read the formula from the email rather than guessing. Then choose one of two routes:
- Convert the encrypted file directly. BayanSheet accepts password-protected PDFs and prompts for the password in your browser. The password and the file both stay on your device.
- Create an unlocked copy. Open the PDF with the password, then Print → Save as PDF. This works, but it can flatten selectable text into an image on some documents, which then forces OCR and reduces accuracy. Converting the original is the better default.
Full detail lives in our guide to converting password-protected bank statements.
🔒 If you have to send a statement and its password to a colleague, use two different channels. Both in one email thread cancels out the protection entirely.
Step 3 — Convert to Excel or CSV
- Open BayanSheet.
- Drop the RAKBANK PDF onto the page.
- Enter the password locally if the file is encrypted.
- The engine auto-detects the statement layout and extracts date, description, debit, credit and running balance for every transaction.
- The reconciliation check runs automatically — opening balance + credits − debits against the printed closing balance. Rows that do not add up are flagged rather than quietly shipped.
- Download as Excel (.xlsx) or CSV.
The whole sequence happens inside the browser tab. There is no upload step, because there is no server involved in the parsing.
If you work across several UAE banks, the UAE banks hub shows how the different formats behave. For the general mechanics of statement conversion, see how to convert a bank statement to Excel.
Step 4 — Verify before you import
Extraction is easy. Verification is the part that saves your month-end.
The dangerous conversion error is never the obvious one. It is a single row silently dropped from page three, or a decimal misread, or a debit recorded as a credit — none of which announce themselves. They surface later as a reconciliation that will not close, and you spend an afternoon finding a discrepancy that a machine could have flagged in a second.
Check these four things every time:
| Check | What good looks like | What it catches |
|---|---|---|
| Balances reconcile | Opening + credits − debits = printed closing balance | Dropped rows, misread amounts |
| Debit / credit separated | Two columns, correct direction | Inverted or merged amounts |
| Descriptions intact | Wrapped narration on one row | Phantom transactions from split lines |
| Dates correct | No day/month transposition; value date kept | Transactions in the wrong VAT period |
The first check is the one that matters most, because it is arithmetic rather than opinion. If the totals tie back to the statement, the file is complete. That is a materially different position from a tool that returns rows and advises you to review the output carefully before using it for financial decisions — that phrasing simply hands the checking back to you.
Since RAKBANK is auto-detected rather than tuned, be deliberate on your first file: confirm the column mapping looks right before you trust the format. After that, statements in the same layout convert consistently.
Our full evaluation method — five tests you can run on any converter, including ours — is in how to verify a bank statement converter. If you are heading straight into a reconciliation, bank reconciliation from PDF statements picks up where this guide ends.
Step 5 — Import into Zoho Books, QuickBooks or Tally
Zoho Books
Banking → select the account → Import Statement. Upload the CSV and map date, description, withdrawal (debit) and deposit (credit). Set the date format explicitly — DD/MM/YYYY is standard in the Gulf, and a mismatch here is the most common reason an import silently misdates a whole month. Zoho remembers the mapping for next time.
QuickBooks Online
Transactions → Bank transactions → Upload from file. QuickBooks accepts either a single signed amount column or separate debit and credit columns, so map to whichever your export uses. Before accepting the batch, confirm the date column parsed as dates rather than as text.
Tally
Tally expects data shaped to its ledger structure, so plan on one reshaping pass between the converted sheet and the import. Step-by-step guidance is in importing bank statements into Tally, and a comparison across packages is in importing bank statements into accounting software.
✅ Import one month, reconcile it, then batch the rest. Finding a mapping error across 40 rows is a five-minute fix. Finding it across a year is a day.
Privacy: why in-browser processing is the point
A RAKBANK statement for an SME is a complete map of the business — every supplier, every customer, salaries, margins, cash position. It is exactly the file you would least like to see sitting on an unknown server.
Upload-based converters copy that file onto infrastructure you do not control. Whatever their retention window is, whoever their staff are, whatever their breach history looks like — you have just inherited all of it on your client's behalf, usually under terms nobody in the practice has read.
BayanSheet parses the PDF in your browser. The file is never transmitted, so there is no stored copy to leak, subpoena or breach. Purchased credits never expire and there is no card required to try it.
⚡ Don't take our word for it. Turn off your Wi-Fi, then convert a statement. Browser-based processing keeps working because nothing needs to travel. Server-based processing hangs. That one test answers the question no landing page can.
Quick reference
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Where do I get the PDF? | RAKBANK Digital Banking or the RAKBANK Mobile app |
| Password? | Formula is in the covering email; in-app downloads are often unencrypted |
| Tuned template? | No — automatic layout detection, with full reconciliation applied |
| Is the file uploaded? | No — everything is parsed in your browser |
| Output formats | Excel (.xlsx) and CSV |
| Keep the original PDF? | Yes — it remains the official record; the sheet is your working copy |
One last thing worth saying plainly: converting does not replace the PDF. The statement RAKBANK issued stays your tamper-evident, auditable record. The spreadsheet is the working copy you filter, categorise and import — which is precisely why it has to be provably complete before you use it.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to convert a RAKBANK statement to Excel?
Download the native PDF from RAKBANK Digital Banking or the RAKBANK Mobile app, unlock it if it is password protected, then run it through a converter that extracts the transaction table and verifies the totals. BayanSheet does this inside your browser, so the statement is never uploaded, and it reconciles opening balance plus credits minus debits against the closing balance printed on the PDF.
How do I open a password-protected RAKBANK statement?
The password formula is stated in the email that delivered the statement, and is normally built from details you already have such as date of birth, customer number or the last digits of your card or account. Statements downloaded while logged into digital banking are often not encrypted at all. BayanSheet can also take an encrypted PDF directly and prompt for the password locally, so nothing is transmitted.
Does BayanSheet support RAKBANK statements?
Yes, through automatic layout detection rather than a hand-tuned template. Tuned templates exist for Emirates NBD, FAB, ADCB and Dubai Islamic Bank only. For RAKBANK the engine detects the table structure in your PDF, maps the columns, and applies the same reconciliation check as every other statement. Review the column mapping on your first file of a given format.
How do I know the converted RAKBANK data is accurate?
Rely on arithmetic rather than trust. If opening balance plus all credits minus all debits equals the closing balance printed on the statement, no row was dropped and no amount was misread badly enough to change the totals. Then spot-check that debits and credits are in separate columns, that wrapped descriptions stayed on one row, and that dates were not transposed.
Can I convert a client's RAKBANK statement without uploading it?
Yes. BayanSheet parses the PDF with JavaScript running in your own browser, so the file never leaves your device. You can verify this by turning off your internet connection and converting anyway — it still works. Converters that upload to a server cannot do that, because they need to reach their backend to process the file.
